JM Goldson worked with RKG Associate’s team to perform a market rate housing demand analysis and development strategy for the counties of Franklin and Roanoke and the cities of Roanoke and Salem. The Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Region (RVAR) is in the western portion of Virginia and has a land area of approximately 2,325 square miles.

JM Goldson performed the land suitability analysis for each jurisdiction to identify sites with potential for housing. The analysis included identifying preferred housing types, based on market demand and housing needs, potential barriers to development, and a ranking of the top 12 readily developable sites in the region that can provide diverse, affordable housing. The analysis included facilitating multiple stakeholder focus groups, collaborating with local planning professionals, as well as performing sophisticated and extensive spatial analytics and data visualization.
