Bridgewater Academy Building

Today, in my role as Bridgewater's new Preservation Planner/Grant Writer, I've submitted the first of what we hope will be many grant applications to leverage the Town's Community Preservation Act funds. The subject of this grant application to the Massachusetts Historical Commission is the Bridgewater Academy. This Italianate and Georgian Revival style building, constructed in 1868 and 1897, is a stately focal point overlooking the southern end of Bridgewater's town common in the Central Square Local Historic District.

The building, which houses multiple town offices and community meeting space, is in dire need of emergency preservation work. The Town's project is the first phase of a multi-year project to preserve the building and to improve accessibility.

MHC's Massachusetts Preservation Projects Fund awards are expected to be announced in June. We are hoping MHC will recognize the importance of this project and fully fund our request.
