The Citizen Planner Training Collaborative's upcoming workshop in Worcester on Saturday, March 20th, will include a session on Municipal Affordable Housing Trusts. I will be presenting the session with Connie Kruger, Massachusetts Housing Partnership (MHP), and Kathleen O'Donnell, attorney at law. Our presentation will be based on MHP's new Muncipal Affordable Housing Trust Guidebook. An excerpt from the guidebook:
Establishing a Municipal Affordable Housing Trust fund signals a community's readiness to address its housing needs . . . Although the concept is not new, communities have shown increased interest in forming their own Municipal Affordable Housing Trust fund due to increased availability of local funding sources like the Community Preservation Act.
Our presentation will be helpful for communities that are considering establishing a housing trust and those that are just getting started with a new trust. We will discuss how to envision, shape, get support, and implement a housing trust (per Massachusetts General Law c.44 s.55C).
