I recently teamed with housing consultant Beth Rust to help the Town of Easton get its new Housing Trust off to a strong start. I met Rust through my research for the Massachusetts Housing Partnership's upcoming guidebook on Municipal Affordable Housing Trusts. Rust and I held a planning workshop in early July for Easton's town board and commission members to help determine goals and priorities for the use of Trust funds in the next five years.
In the upcoming months we'll be working closely with Easton's new Board of Trustees to vet priorities, determine short-term and long-term initiatives, and develop a realistic program and operating budget. With Action Plan, budget, and program concepts in hand, the Board of Trustees will be in good shape to approach the Town for funding.
By collaborating with Beth Rust on this project, we are able to combine my planning and facilitating specialties with Rust's practical experience managing an active housing trust. Rust's management of Sudbury's Affordable Housing Trust is impressive. Check out the Trust's initiatives on their website and also in the 2008 Annual Report.
